Our Brewery
Travois Ale Works is a small, cozy brewery nestled in a 1939 brick building in the heart of downtown Medicine Hat. Since 2018, we've been brewing traditional European classics and revolutionary American styles, each crafted with precision in small, seven-barrel single batches. Managed and operated by our brewer Brady, we pour passion into every pint.

The Taproom
Step into our cozy taproom, nestled within a 1939 brick building in the heart of historic downtown Medicine Hat. Our Taproom is managed by Chef Jordan and offers exposed brick walls, warm wooden accents, and long communal tables. Take in the atmosphere from our loft, the perfect spot to relax with friends or host a private gathering. Join us for live music, trivia nights, or just a quiet moment with a well-poured pint.
Our Name
Our brewery is named after the ‘Travois’, Travois were used by Aboriginal Plains people, here in Canada, to haul their belongings. A travois usually consisted of two long poles with some framework, lashed to the sides of your dog. The poles were dragged behind, carrying equipment. Dog travois were usually quite small, capable of pulling about 25kg. Later, dogs were replaced by horses, and the increased pulling power allowed people to haul more worldly belongings.
Travois are intrinsically connected to this part of the world, they are uniquely prairie, like us.

Chris is a Saskatchewan native, craft beer lover, and professional business and real estate consultant by day. He purchased Travois out of a deep love for craft beer and a strong belief in a vibrant, “happening” downtown. Chris is a passionate advocate for community connection and sees Travois as a place where happiness is shared as freely as the beer. Whether you walk in with friends or on your own, the taproom is designed to feel welcoming—somewhere you’ll always know someone, or quickly get to know them, and feel surrounded by friends.
